Galerie Lelong & Co. at Art Basel Miami Beach

Visual Arts

Galerie Lelong & Co. is pleased to present at Art Basel Miami Beach with a selection of work by Etel Adnan, Günther Förg, David Hockney, Alfredo Jaar, Samuel Levi Jones, Ana Mendieta, Hélio Oiticica, Jaume Plensa, Zilia Sánchez, Antoni Tàpies, Mildred Thompson, Barthélémy Toguo, Fabienne Verdier, and Ursula von Rydingsvard.

A highlight of the fair will be a large-scale Magnetic Fields painting by Mildred Thompson. It is joined by a selection of Thompson’s prints and Wood Pictures as part of the Kabinett sector. Galerie Lelong & Co. recently announced the exclusive representation of the Mildred Thompson Estate and presented her first solo exhibition in New York in 2018. The New York Times described her work in the gallery’s exhibition as, “beautiful, upbeat work, backed up by an entire creative history yet to be fully explored.” Like many artists of color, Thompson has been increasingly recognized for her contributions to the field of abstraction, from being included in the 2018 Berlin Biennale to presenting a solo exhibition of Wood Pictures at the New Orleans Museum of Art, Louisiana in October 2018. Her work was also recently acquired by the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington DC.

Alfredo Jaar will stage a public intervention at Faena during Art Basel Miami Beach, in which A Logo for America will be screened aboard a boat that will run along the shoreline. Photographs of his original intervention in 1987 on billboards in Times Square, New York, A Logo for America, will be on view in the booth.

The booth will also feature new sculptures by both Jaume Plensa and Ursula von Rydingsvard.
