Atelier 4 Announces Annual Registrar of the Year Award to Celebrate 30th Anniversary

Visual Arts

Art logistics company Atelier 4 announced today its launch of a Registrar of the Year Award as a feature of its 30th Anniversary celebrations. The national award is the first of its kind and celebrates an often underrecognized, unseen professional group within the commercial and nonprofit art sectors. The anniversary is also marked by a new sponsorship of Artists Space where the first Registrar of the Year award will be announced, a new and improved website and a doubling of A4’s shuttle routes to begin in 2020, following the expansion of its Miami facilities earlier this year.

“This company began when it was just myself and a truck, and my early encounters were defined by my interactions with registrars” explained Jonathan Schwartz, CEO of Atelier 4. “Over the decades as we’ve grown to four different locations and dozens of staff, I’ve come to have a deep appreciation for the role that registrars play, the pressures they work under, and the knowledge they possess, and I wanted to create a fun way to give something back to them and celebrate this hidden, essential force in the art world.”

Registrar of the Year

The Registrar of the Year will be determined in three stages. Nominations open on October 1, 2019 via registraroftheyear.art and must be submitted by a colleague or supervisor via a simple questionnaire. Nominations will close on October 16, at which point all accepted nominees will be open to public voting. Voting will close on November 16, at which point the twenty nominees with the most votes will be viewed by guest judge Clynton Lowry, Editor-in-Chief of Art Handler Magazine and founder of jobs.art.

The Registrar of the Year will receive a $5,000 cash prize during a private event at Artists Space on December 11, 2019, where A4 will also honor Cherie Summers. Ms. Summers is a veteran registrar, formerly of the Santa Barbara Art Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, and Museum of Modern Art who retired in 2014, and whose dedication to the profession and collegiality helped inspire this event. The Registrar of the Year the Year Award will be given annually.

Support for Artists Space

As part of its efforts to support the community of artists which ultimately allow Atelier 4 to thrive, A4 is additionally pleased to announce a long-term initiative of support for Artists Space by providing an annual cash sponsorship and shipping, trucking, and storage services for its exhibitions. In return, Artists Space has granted Atelier 4 use of its newly-renovated space in TriBeCa for the Registrar of the Year Celebration, but is otherwise unaffiliated with the Award.

Expanded Shuttle Services

In a substantial growth of its operations, Atelier 4 announces the expansion of its popular shuttle services. Originating from its Charlotte, NC facility, Atelier 4 will offer three new regional shuttle routes connecting its additional East Coast facilities in New York and Miami providing wider and more accessible coverage throughout the Carolinas, Mid-Atlantic, and Gulf Coast of Florida. The expansion will also see the return of Atelier 4’s Southwest route, which departs New York for Charlotte, and focuses on client needs alongside the Interstate 40 corridor to Los Angeles before returning to New York.

The announcement follows the April 2019 expasion of its Miami operations into a larger 20,000 square foot climate-controlled warehouse, with increased capabilities for storage, customs control, and crate building, as well as a private viewing room and interior loading dock to protect the loading and unloading of artworks during storm season.
