Two Palms at The 2019 Korea International Art Fair

Visual Arts

At the 2019 edition of the Korea International Art Fair, Two Palms will exhibit for the first time in South Korea, offering an array of works representative of the kind of boundary-pushing printmaking the studio has become known for, with works by Mel Bochner, Cecily Brown, Jeff Koons, Elizabeth Peyton, and Stanley Whitney.

The centerpiece of Two Palms’ booth with be a nearly 240 by 190 centimeter, highly textured monoprint by Mel Bochner featuring the words Blah, Blah, Blah. An early adopter of the hydraulic press in printmaking, Bochner’s monoprints have an unparalleled physicality that is often highlighted by the bright colors he chooses to work with. Also on view will be several works from Bochner’s new series of mirrors etched with some of the conceptual artist’s most iconic texts. Smaller scale monoprints, silkscreens and etchings will also be available.

A selection of works from Jeff Koons’ Gazing Ball print series will be presented, two of which, Gazing Ball (Manet Luncheon on the Grass) and Gazing Ball (Klimt Kiss), are new to the series. These prints, depicting masterpieces from art history embedded with a highly-reflective, cobalt-blue gazing ball, invite the viewer to see themselves within the work and incite a dialogue about their relationship to the art historical canon.

Two Palms will also present a new etching by Elizabeth Peyton printed on hand-dyed pink paper, portraying Timothée Chalamet’s character Elio from the Oscar-winning film, Call Me By Your Name. Often drawing inspiration from her creative peers and the historic and contemporary individuals that she feels have impacted our cultural heritage, the booth will also feature Peyton’s interpretations of figures such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Michelangelo, and the fictional Germanic heroine, Brunhilde.

Other highlights include new monotypes by Stanley Whitney in addition to a series of his monochromatic etchings. Two Palms will also include a limited number of monotypes by Cecily Brown, from her recent solo exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.
