City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places

MIAMI BEACH

The City of Miami Beach established an Art in Public Places program in 1984. By ordinance, 2 percent of the hard costs of city-owned or public-private construction projects are set aside for “works of art in public spaces other than museums which enrich and give diversion to the public environment.”

The fund is administered by a City Commission–appointed citizen’s board of seven members, the Art in Public Places Committee. Artworks commissioned by the group add value to the public art collection, attract international attention, and celebrate the diversity and heritage of Miami Beach.
