AS PART OF ITS GROWING
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM,
THE ANDY WARHOL MUSEUM LAUNCHES
DEDICATED TIKTOK ACCOUNT MANAGED BY LOCAL TEENS

The Andy Warhol Museum recenrly launched launched a TikTok social media page managed by high school students as a part of its museum workforce development program, which explores a new relevancy for museums in their communities.

The TikTok page (@TheWarholMuseum) features artworks by Andy Warhol and other contemporary artists, digital content from museum exhibitions and programs, and interviews with special guests. The account is managed by a small group of high-school-aged interns located in the Pittsburgh who were hired as part of a youth-run non-profit creative agency.

The interns are given access to the museum, its exhibitions, programs and events, visiting artists, and staff. While treating the museum as a client, students learn important skills like project management, communication and collaboration, editing, storyboarding and museum best practices. The students share facts, interview experts and utilize TikTok trends, sounds and memes to introduce Warhol’s life, art and legacy to a new audience.

“I feel fortunate to be a part of an agency that gets to take over the TikTok account for one of the most famous museums in the world. I think we have many good ideas, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for The Warhol and our team,” says Ezra Jones, intern, age 17.

The Warhol receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; and The Heinz Endowments. Further support is provided by the Allegheny Regional Asset District.
