Acquavella Galleries presents James Rosenquist: Painting Below Zero and Unnatural Nature: Post-Pop Landscapes.

On view through April 11, James Rosenquist: Painting Below Zero is the late artist’s first show in Palm Beach and features a selection of works spanning over 40 years that highlight various chapters in the artist’s practice.

Unnatural Nature: Post-Pop Landscapes is a contemporary painting group show that explores the work of an older generation of artists and their influence and relationship to a vibrant group of younger painters. Curated by Todd Bradway, this exhibition will be on view at the New York location April 21 – June 10, 2022, and at the Palm Beach location April 15 – May 25, 2022.

Opening April 9 and on view through September 25 at ASU Art Museum, New Earthworks features work by eight contemporary artists who explore our interconnectedness with the earth. The dialectic of site-specific and gallery locations, experiences, and objects provide a chance to rethink our understanding of the earth and propose new methods at a time when it has never been more pressing to do so. New Earthworks is co-curated by artist Mark Dion and ASU Art Museum Curator Emeritus Heather Sealy Lineberry.

The City of Miami recently announced Arts Resilient 305 | Aspen Institute, a joint initiative by Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Beach presented in conjunction with Aspen Ideas: Climate for its inaugural conference in Miami Beach, May 9-12, 2022.

For the launch of the Arts Resilient 305 program, the City of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County invited local artists to commission new and repositioned site-specific temporary public art installations and performances highlighting issues related to climate change and sea level rise.

Stereotypies is an exhibition of new paintings and animations by Claudia Bitrán. Currently on view at Cristin Tierney Gallery through April 16, the exhibition explores the artist’s interest in the circulation and consumption of viral imagery – more specifically, how women are often the subjects of this violent system of mass distribution.

From July 22 to November 13, 2022, The Fabric Workshop and Museum will present Jayson Musson’s His History of Art. Utilizing costuming, props, puppetry, and scenery created in collaboration with the FWM studio team, Musson will produce a new three-channel video installation. Taking inspiration from the structure and tone of educational programs such as PBS children’s shows and nun-turned-art critic Sister Wendy Beckett, Musson conducts a satirical survey on art history, its relationship to the general public, and the ways in which popular art historical images impact our cultural consciousness.

Forman Arts Initiative is an organization dedicated to supporting community-based arts and creativity in Philadelphia through grantmaking, programming, convening, and advocacy.

Together with the Philadelphia Foundation, Forman Arts Initiative opened the second-year grant application window for Art Works – a $3 million grant program for community-based organizations and artists, designed to support arts, culture, and creativity working in partnership with Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and other under-served communities. The application deadline is May 16.

Andy Goldsworthy’s Red Flags, previously exhibited in 2020 for Frieze Sculpture at Rockefeller Center, will be recontextualized in the gallery space. The flags will hang vertically in their weathered states and will be accompanied by two film works originating from the piece. Red Flags will be on view March 31 through May 7, 2022. In honor of Earth Day, the artist will be in conversation with Brett Littman, director of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum and curator of Frieze Sculpture 2020, on Saturday, April 23, 2022, in the gallery at 11am ET.

Howl! Happening presents Mark Cooper: Unbounded: Angels in the Nursery, Christy Rupp: Othered, and Bobby Grossman: Low Fidelity.

On view through April 10, Mark Cooper’s fantastical and ornate mixed-media installation Unbounded: Angels in the Nursery uses visual signifiers to suggest multiple subtexts—from the importance of experiencing boundless joy to addressing the many issues that challenge our present and our future.

Opening April 16 at HA/HA, Low Fidelity features a selection of photographs by Bobby Grossman that documents and sheds new light on icons of New York’s punk-rock scene and the culture that bred other trailblazing artists and musicians of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Opening April 21, Othered is a new installation by artist, activist, and thought-leader Christy Rupp. In her extensive career, Rupp has revealed what is hidden away from common view and understanding through collage, sculpture, public art, and activism.

The Kallir Research Institute recently hosted Grandma Moses: Life and Art, a virtual webinar sponsored by the Bennington Museum in Vermont on March 16. Featuring a conversation between Jane Kallir, President, Kallir Research Institute and Jamie Franklin, Curator, Bennington Museum, Jane examined Moses’s ties to the local community, the evolution of the Moses gallery at the Bennington Museum, and her and her family’s role in promoting the artist. The conversation was recorded and is available now.

Megan Fox Kelly releases episode six of Reading the Art World, a conversation with collector and patron Bernard Lumpkin, whose collection is the subject of the exhibition and book, Young, Gifted and Black: A New Generation of Artists. (D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers Inc, 2020).

In this podcast, Lumpkin tells the story of his evolution to collector, patron, and advocate and how the exhibition of the collection and accompanying book furthers his own mission of broadening education about Black contemporary art. Listen to this podcast on Spotify and Apple.

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation will collaborate with Gladstone Gallery, Thaddeus Ropac Gallery (Salzburg), and Mnuchin Gallery to present concurrent exhibitions in New York and Salzburg that reaffirm the continued breadth and influence of Robert Rauschenberg’s post-1970 practice. Collectively, these three exhibitions will make visible the stylistic diversity and conceptual continuity of the radically inventive artist.

The Foundation has recently announced the commencement of the Robert Rauschenberg Catalogue Raisonné of painting and sculpture, as well as the recipients of the 2022 Artists Council Grants.

On view through June 18, Articulating Activism: Works from the Shelley and Donald Rubin Private Collection draws from their Art and Social Justice Collection, which began in 2015. The formation of this branch of the collection celebrates the prescience and power of art at this particular location and moment in history.

The exhibition coincides with the publication of An Incomplete Archive of Activist Art, published by the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation. Reflecting on the Foundation’s art and social justice initiatives, the two-volume publication features thematic essays, roundtable discussions, newly commissioned artworks, and documentation of visual art exhibitions.

Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture celebrates the conclusion of a series of initiatives that took place in 2021 to mark Skowhegan’s 75th year which included an outdoor Block Party festival featuring performances and installations by alumni artists, special limited-edition artworks, and special alumni residencies on the Maine campus.

Skowhegan also inaugurated new buildings built during Covid including the Gund Dining Hall, the David C. Driskell Participant House, the Moffett/Gober Sculpture Work Pavilion, and the Frank Moore Studio. These projects are part of a multi-year campus plan made possible through the 75th Anniversary Capital Campaign, a $20M initiative that is 90% complete. The celebrations honor Skowhegan’s long history and lasting impact as an art school, institution, and community, and ensure its future in engaging the next generation of artists around the evolving nature of artmaking.

Opening April 22 and on view through August 15 at The Andy Warhol Museum, Paola Pivi: I Want It All embraces the artist’s penchant for physical and visual excess. The exhibition will include photo and video documentation of Pivi’s ambitious performances as well as expansive site-specific installations.

Paola Pivi: I Want It All is organized by José Carlos Diaz, chief curator at The Warhol. The exhibition coincides with the upcoming publication Paola Pivi, edited by Justine Ludwig and published by Phaidon in association with The Andy Warhol Museum; Anchorage Museum; The Bass Museum of Art; [mac] musée d’art contemporain de Marseille; and MAXXI Museo Nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo. The monograph features more than 250 images, including previously unpublished work, together with five new essays.

The New York City AIDS Memorial honors the more than 100,000 New Yorkers who have died of AIDS and acknowledges the ongoing contributions of caregivers and activists who mobilize to end the epidemic.Founded as a grass-roots advocacy effort in early 2011 by Christopher Tepper and Paul Kelterborn, the New York City AIDS Memorial is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with a 16-person Board of Directors, chaired by Keith Fox.

Opening April 9 and on view through July 10, Woodmere Art Museum’s Hearing the Brush: the Painting and Poetry of Warren and Jane Rohrer, will explore the creative relationship between Warren and Jane Rohrer–husband and wife, painter and poet respectively– who inspired one another and mutually sustained each other’s artistic practice.

The Woodmere Annual Juried Exhibition will open June 4 for its 80th edition. This year’s jurors Michelle Angela Ortiz and José Ortiz-Pagán invited artists living within fifty miles of the museum to submit works of visual art that reflect on the theme of migration. Selected artists will be announced soon.

On view March 28 through April 19: The New Figuration, curated by Glenn Adamson. Including works by seven contemporary practitioners, the exhibition considers the current propulsion towards figurative representation in design, and more broadly, probes the mode’s sudden pressing relevance–a phenomenon paralleled in contemporaneous painting and sculpture.

On view April 28 through May 21: Marks and Markers, Adam Silverman’s third solo exhibition. Tracing the evolution of Silverman’s career through two discrete bodies of work, this self-reflective exhibition refers back to the genesis of his ceramics practice while looking ambitiously to the future.
