New York, NY – June 4, 2024 – The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation is pleased to announce its summer 2024 programs at The 8th Floor. Expanding from work on view in Narrative Obsession in the Post-Colonial Psyche, Ryan Kelly of Gerard & Kelly will be in conversation with the exhibition curators on June 11, followed by artists Keith Piper and Elisa Sighicelli at the gallery for a conversation on June 20. The Foundation is excited to continue supporting local emerging professionals through an Independent Curating Workshop on June 13 and an Artist Development Workshop on June 26.
All events are free and open to the public, taking place at The 8th Floor, 17 W 17th St, NYC. RSVPs are encouraged via the individual links below.

Ryan Kelly of artist duo Gerard & Kelly will be in conversation with the Foundation’s Executive Director Anjuli Nanda Diamond and Curator George Bolster at The 8th Floor. They will discuss Gerard & Kelly’s recent collaborative practice, focusing on the music of Julius Eastman in Panorama (2021), on view at the gallery through July 13.

Independent Curating Workshop

Join the Foundation’s curatorial team for a presentation on independent curating. Geared toward emerging, early-career, and advanced student curators, this workshop will address how to assemble compelling and realistic proposals when reaching out to galleries and museums, as well as all aspects of exhibition planning.

This exhibition features artists addressing the harmful global histories and present-day legacies of imperial subjugation: Firelei Báez, Gerard & Kelly, Brian Jungen, Hew Locke, Joiri Minaya, Frida Orupabo, Keith Piper, Umar Rashid, Yinka Shonibare CBE, Elisa Sighicelli, and Kara Walker.
