MYSTIC, CT, June 27, 2024 — Mystic Seaport Museum is pleased to announce the launch of “Find Your Sea Story,” a marketing campaign aimed at unifying the world-class maritime institution’s messaging and deepening the connection between its diverse audiences and the maritime world.
“Mystic Seaport Museum is a place where every visitor can find a piece of their history and connect it to the sea,” said Sophia Matsas, Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “Our ‘Find Your Sea Story’ campaign celebrates these unique connections and invites everyone to explore how their maritime experiences shape their lives today.”
The centerpiece of the campaign is Find Your Sea Story, a multi episode YouTube mini-documentary series that will highlight stories of resilience, survival, and connection, and explore topics ranging from cross-Atlantic migration, intimate family histories, and childhood memories to maritime innovation, and will delve into the Museum’s expansive collections, shipyard, grounds, exhibition spaces, and library.
The series, which premiered on June 7, will feature diverse voices from the Mystic community and beyond, including Charlie Enright (esteemed American sailor), Akeia de Barros Gomes (Senior Curator of Maritime Social Histories, Mystic Seaport Museum), Maria Miranda (Creative Director, Miranda Creative), Sasha Ramella (Mystic Seaport Museum Conrad Overnight Sailing Camper), and Erin Shea (Creative Director, Poppi’s Planet), among others. Episodes will be released on a bi-weekly basis through September 13 on YouTube.
To buttress its connection to Downtown Mystic the Museum has launched a pop-up store featuring a limited-edition retail collection by local designer Just Mystic. To encourage visitors to explore everything the Museum has to offer including opportunities to “Get Out On The Water”, with daily sunset cruises aboard Sabino, a designated National Historic Landmark vessel, which departs from the downtown dock, and a comprehensive schedule of Mystic Seaport Express shuttle cruises transport guests from downtown Mystic to the Museum. The shuttle cruises include admission to the Museum, providing a seamless and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Additionally, a bespoke brochure, billboard advertisements, digital displays at Metro-North stations, T.F. Green Airport in Providence, and in Boston’s South Station, broadcast advertisements on Connecticut Public Radio, full-page print ads in Connecticut Magazine, digital ads across YouTube, Meta, and programmatic display, and the spring issue of the Mystic Seaport Museum Magazine commemorate the campaign.
“Find Your Sea Story” invites Museum visitors, near and far, in person and digitally, to explore their unique relationship with the sea, uncovering their personal story, and revealing how the sea connects us all.
Whether it’s a young family stepping back in time in the re-created seaport village or exploring the 19th-century Charles W. Morgan whaleship, a middle schooler fascinated by nautical navigation in the Treworgy Planetarium, or a novice woodworker captivated by the Henry B. du Pont Preservation Shipyard, there is something for everyone. Art enthusiasts can get lost in exhibitions across the Museum’s numerous gallery spaces, while craftsmen can find inspiration in the intricate work in the Preservation Shipyard, and virtual visitors can become enthralled by the extended storytelling on the Museum’s social platforms bringing onsite experiences to the comfort of their homes with a digital museum experience. Academics and researchers have access to unparalleled research documents in the G. W. Blunt White Library, which provides a wealth of information for scholarly pursuits.
