Manny Vega, Dance: From Bomba to Breaking, 2026
HISTORIAS programming extends Reveladas from the galleries into The Clemente’s theaters and gathering spaces, and outward across the city. Over the coming months, The Clemente will partner with LxNY and other institutions across four boroughs to present public artworks and symposia, historical walking tours, and further satellite exhibitions.
Leading up to the exhibition, The Clemente and Montez Press Radio will present Dance, Memory, and the Sonic Commons, a three-part radio series that explores the history and ongoing evolution of Latinx nightlife, dance culture, and collective memory. Beginning on September 9 and continuing until the exhibition opening, guest hosts Ed Morales, Carlos Viesca, Jesús Hilario Reyes, and Carina del Valle Schorske will guide listeners through the musical histories of salsa, cumbia and club music in NYC.
Additional programming details will be announced in September.
Please save the date for the opening celebration of Reveladas: Nueva York in Plain Sight on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 7pm-10pm. About The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center
Founded in 1993, The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center is a Puerto Rican/Latinx multi-arts institution rooted in New York City’s Lower East Side/Loisaida. Housed in a former public school building at 107 Suffolk Street,The Clemente provides cultural infrastructure for artists, arts organizations, and community producers through affordable studios and spaces, exhibitions, performances, public humanities programs, and opportunities for gathering and exchange.
For more than three decades, artists and cultural organizations have made, rehearsed, performed, exhibited, organized, and gathered within its walls. The Clemente works to keep cultural space accessible and in community use, connecting neighborhood history and cultural memory with contemporary art, performance, and civic life while sustaining cultural production as a shared public resource. The Clemente is a co-founder/partner of LxNY Consortium and the Coalition of Small Arts NYC (CoSA NYC).
About LxNY
LxNY | Latinx Arts Consortium of New York is a peer network of 50 + Latinx-serving arts organizations working across New York City. Formed in 2020, LxNY advances knowledge exchange, resource-sharing, advocacy, and collective action to address the historic underfunding of Latinx arts and cultural institutions.
Through its member organizations, LxNY supports artists, culture bearers, community-based institutions, and public programs that reflect the breadth of Latinx cultural life in New York City.
About Historias
HISTORIAS is a multi-year, citywide art and public humanities initiative led by The Clemente that examines how Latinx communities have made and shaped New York City through cultural practice, labor, migration, gathering, memory, and struggles over place. Through exhibitions, commissions, performances, oral histories, archival research, digital storytelling, and public programs, it brings artists, scholars, researchers, cultural organizations, and community partners into a shared process of inquiry.
At its core, HISTORIAS asks what becomes visible when Latinx histories are understood as constitutive of New York’s history rather than peripheral to it. The initiative has unfolded through three phases: Sembradas, Entrecruzadas, and Reveladas. Following its culminating exhibition, Reveladas: Nueva York in Plain Sight, signature programs will continue alongside Nueva York Chronicles (NY.C.), a growing digital repository, map, and timeline that recovers dispersed histories and brings organizations, movements, businesses, events, and cultural practices into relation, creating multiple paths through the histories of Latinx New York.
