City of Miami Beach No Vacancy, Miami Beach Returns Ten Artists Creating Site-Specific Projects in Ten Unique Hotels
The City of Miami Beach, in collaboration with the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) is pleased to announce the second iteration of No Vacancy, Miami Beach, with extended viewing November 18 through December 9, 2021. No Vacancy is a juried art competition that celebrates artists, provokes critical discourse, and invites the public to experience Miami Beach’s famed hotels as destination art spaces.
Artists were drawn from a call for submissions issued by the city and selected by representatives from the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places Committee (AiPP), Cultural Arts Council (CAC) and MBVCA.
“No Vacancy, in 2020, exceeded our expectations by creating an innovative concept that pushed the boundaries of traditional gallery space exhibition. This unique program celebrates Miami Beach’s creative and hospitality communities by inviting our residents and visitors to engage in diverse and immersive public art installations in our one-of-a-kind hotel properties. We are pleased to, once again, provide distinctive and memorable experiences of contemporary public art,” said City of Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber.
For the second edition of No Vacancy, $25,000 in prizes will be awarded, including a $5,000 Public Prize by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) and a $20,000 Juried Prize awarded by a jury of local art experts.
Each selected artist received a stipend of $10,000 to realize their project. The winner of the Juried Prize and the winner of the Public Prize will be announced on December 9, 2021.
