Friedman Benda presents Design in Dialogue Episode 11: James Wines

Friedman Benda continues Design in Dialogue, a series of online interviews hosted by curator and historian Glenn Adamson. Join leading voices from the field—designers, makers, critics, and curators—as they discuss their work and ideas. Conversations are held on Zoom for 45 minutes + 15 minutes participatory Q&A, beginning at 11am Eastern Standard Time.

Today at 11:00am EDT,  James Wines, a living legend in the combined fields of art and architecture, will conduct us on a wide-ranging tour of his work with SITE (Sculpture in the Environment), established five decades ago in 1970.

Future guests include:

Monday May 4th: Alice Stori Liechtenstein and Marlène Huissoud will join us to discuss Walden, an upcoming virtual exhibition at Schloß Hollenegg for Design in Austria, curated by Lichtenstein and featuring Huissoud’s innovative bio-designs.

Wednesday May 6th: nendo, founded by Oki Sato in 2002, brings a characteristically precise, ethereally light touch to projects ranging from furniture to exhibition design, each one based on a moment of revelatory insight into everyday life.

Friday May 8th: Sarah Schleuning, Margot B. Perot senior curator of decorative arts and design at the Dallas Museum of Art, will discuss recent exhibition projects including Iris Van HerpenWomen + Design, and Speechless: Different by Design.

For the duration of the present coronavirus lockdown—Design in Dialogue will convene three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. More guests to come as we are currently building a program that will hopefully be as engaging to the audience as it is exciting for us. Post quarantine the gallery will continue the Design in Dialogue platform. We will post updates for this series on Instagram @friedman_benda. Join us and help keep the design conversation going.
