Jaume Plensa’s Behind the Walls, a New Sculpture to be Installed at Rockefeller Center

Richard Gray Gallery and Galerie Lelong & Co. are thrilled to announce the international debut of Jaume Plensa’s Behind theWalls, a monumental new sculpture to be installed at the historic Rockefeller Center on 5th Avenue in NewYork. Standing over 24 feet tall, Behind the Walls will be unveiled in April 2019 as part of Frieze NewYork’s inaugural sculpture program, Frieze Sculpture.

“We’ve had the honor of working closely with Plensa for several decades and along with our partners Galerie Lelong & Co., are excited to present this richly symbolic new sculpture,” says Paul Gray, partner of Richard Gray Gallery.

exemplified by his recent solo presentations at MACBA, Barcelona, and Palacio de Cristal at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid. Plensa is constantly reinventing himself as one of the greatest sculptors and thinkers of our time.”

Jaume Plensa has emerged as one of the most significant voices in contemporary sculpture with monumental sculptures and striking public installations across the globe. For over thirty years, the internationally celebrated Spanish artist has created a multifaceted body of work on both great and intimate scales.This year, Plensa has another of significant work currently on display, his monumental portrait Julia on exhibition in Madrid’s Colón Square.

Frieze Sculpture is presented this year at Rockefeller Center in partnership with Tishman Speyer and is curated by Brett Littman, Director of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum.Though Frieze Art Fair will take place on Randall’s Island Park from May 2-5, 2019, Frieze Sculpture will remain on view through the end of June 2019.
