New York, NY – March 10, 2025 – Outsider Art Fair (OAF) concluded its 33rd edition on Sunday, March 2, 2025, with energetic sales and record attendance. A diverse and enthusiastic crowd of new and established collectors, art insiders, and curious newcomers poured into the Metropolitan Pavilion to explore works by self-taught artists.
Before opening its doors, OAF confirmed the benefit sale of a monumental, thirteen-foot-long 2022 work on paper by Dan Miller to the distinguished Treger St. Silvestre Collection in Portugal. The $50,000 proceeds will be shared between Grief and Hope, a fund established to support artists impacted by the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, and the Creative Growth Art Center, which supports more than 50 other artists with special needs including Miller.
The VIP opening day and Vernissage on Thursday, February 27, featured a wide range of dignitaries, among them actors Steve Buscemi, Harvey Fierstein, and Susan Sarandon; musicians David Byrne, Graham Nash, David Gahan (Depeche Mode), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Scott Hoffman (Scissor Sisters), and Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley (Yo La Tengo); curators Cecilia Alemani (High Line Art), Laura Bickford (John Michael Kohler Arts Center), Lynne Cooke (National Gallery of Art), Massimiliano Gioni (New Museum), Katherine Jentleson (High Art Museum), and Valerie Rousseau (American Folk Art Museum). Over the course of the weekend, OAF also welcomed artists Brian Donnelly (KAWS), Andres Serrano, Fred Tomaselli, and Terry Winters, actors Morena Baccarin, Ben McKenzie, and Amy Sedaris. Well-known collectors – including Lawrence Benenson, Marty Eisenberg, Jill and Sheldon Bonovitz, Kim Manocherian, Josh Feldstein, John Horseman, John Jerit, Jerry Lauren, Beth Marcus, Jerry Speyer and Leonard Stern – discovered works by renowned and emerging artists at prices ranging from the hundreds to the hundreds of thousands.
The 2025 Curated Space Follow My Moves, organized by São Paulo-based MASP curator Mateus Nunes, presented museum-level works by Brazilian masters such as Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato, Chico da Silva, Conceição dos Bugres, and Maria Lira Marques. The opening hours saw sales of two works by Lira Marques and an exquisite carved-wood nativity scene by Artur Pereira.
Ricco/Maresca and Fleisher/Ollman, long-time leaders in the field, presented works by renowned self-taught masters. By the end of the Fair, Fleisher/Ollman had sold gouaches by Carlo Zinelli, sculptures by David Butler, and a slew of works by Bill Traylor, William Dawson, Georgia Blizzard, Consuelo “Chelo” González Amézcua, Sam Doyle, Howard Finster, Martin Ramirez, and Anna Zemankova, while Ricco/Maresca placed works by William Hawkins, William Edmondson, Traylor, Aloïse Corbaz, Doyle and Adolf Wölfi, among others.
James Barron of James Barron Art: “This is the most democratic fair by far. Here, art is born from necessity and healing. I don’t think you need an education to make art; sometimes it works against maintaining your true voice.”
Patricia Feheley of Feheley Fine Arts: “We met our sales target on the first day. There’s a diversity here in the audience, but thanks to Andrew, the commonality is a sense of warmth and generosity that extends to the dealers.”
John Ollman of Fleisher/Ollman: “We had great success placing works from the Audrey Heckler collection in five established collections as well as several masterworks into newly started self-taught collections. It’s always thrilling to meet the younger generation collectors!”
Tiphanie Spencer of Hana Pietri Gallery: “The Outsider Art Fair is invaluable for attracting new collectors, who continue to engage with our artists beyond the fair. It’s been instrumental in building lasting value for their work.”
