| New York, NY – December 1, 2025 – Art Guard, the leading company in object-based security solutions, is proud to announce the publication of a new white paper, which details a fundamental blind spot in conventional home security systems. Drawing on its experience of protecting nearly 15,000 works of art worldwide over its 19-year history, the firm presents its first-ever white paper, highlighting object-specific protection as a solution to secure high-value stationary objects such as artwork, heirlooms, jewelry, and luxury collectibles.
“Collectors and individuals with valuable objects in their homes are surprisingly unaware of the gaps in their security systems,” says Bill Anderson, co-founder of Art Guard. “These vulnerabilities can invite targeted theft or make it easy for anyone already in the home to take art and valuables that are easy to conceal and remove.”
Over $1.5 trillion in art and collectibles reside unprotected in private collections in the United States. Art Guard found that while approximately 47% of U.S households have a traditional system or some form of security device in a home automation system, the majority of protection relies on the illusion of stopping attacks at the door.
This “daytime gap” is a critical flaw that leaves interiors exposed. In fact, upwards of 40% of home theft occurs during the daytime when valuables are vulnerable to theft by staff, contractors, guests, and even family. Additionally, when the home is unoccupied and perimeter security is compromised, little stands between valuables and their taking. The consequences are dramatic; only 3-5% of stolen art is ever recovered, and the rates for other valuables are even smaller, as low as 1.5%.
To amend the risk of relying on intrusion security, the report highlights object-specific protection, such as Art Guard’s discreet Magnetic Asset Protection (MAP) sensors. Unlike door/window and motion sensors, MAP sensors are armed 24/7 and trigger an immediate alert the moment an asset is moved. This solution has already been adopted by museums and prominent private collectors around the world and has been tasked with protecting singular, unique objects, such as a diamond tiara for Sotheby’s Auction House, comic books on display for the Warner Bros. Museum and Thomas Jefferson’s copy of the Declaration of Independence for the NY Public Library.
