Friedman Benda presents Design in Dialogue Episode 7: OrtaMiklos
Friedman Benda continues Design in Dialogue, a series of online interviews hosted by curator and historian Glenn Adamson. Join leading voices from the field—designers, makers, critics, and curators—as they discuss their work and ideas. Conversations are held on Zoom for 45 minutes + 15 minutes participatory Q&A, beginning at 11am EDT.
This Wednesday April 22nd tune into hear Leo Orta and Victor Miklos Andersen (OrtaMiklos), a partnership formed at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2015, who are finding explosive energy in the combination of objects and performance.
This Friday April 24th tune into hear Ron Arad, a leading figure in international architecture and design since 1981. Arad will speak to us from London about his wide-ranging and adventurous career, at the intersection of sculptural form, advanced technology, and poetic expression.
Once you have registered you will receive a link to attend the event. Please join the discussion by 11:15am.
For the duration of the present coronavirus lockdown—Design in Dialogue will convene three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Future guests will include:
Monday April 27th: Libby Sellers, the leading independent design curator, will discuss projects including her 2019 show An Accelerated Culture, and share thoughts on autonomy and creative practice at times of disruption.
Wednesday April 29: Alexandra Cunningham Cameron, curator of contemporary design at the Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum, will take us behind the scenes of her new exhibition project Willi Smith: Street Couture.
Friday May 1: James Wines, a living legend in the combined fields of art and architecture, will conduct us on a wide-ranging tour of his work with SITE (Sculpture in the Environment), established five decades ago in 1970.
More guests to come as we are currently building a program that will hopefully be as engaging to the audience as it is exciting for us. Post quarantine the gallery will continue the Design in Dialogue platform. We will post updates for this series on Instagram @friedman_benda. Join us and help keep the design conversation going.
